Ötvenéves a néptánctagozat
Printed here is a speech given by present rector of the Hungarian Academy of Dance at the reunion celebrating 50 years since the first group of professionally trained folk dancers completed their training. She points out that organized training in dance didn’t exist in Hungary until the middle of the 20th century. Though a ballet school existed at the Royal Opera house from 1888, professional dance training began with the establishment of the State Institute of Ballet in 1950. Then in 1971, auditions were advertised nationwide - for the first class for professional folk dance training at the Institute of Ballet. 4200 teenagers applied for 43 places in the program. 40 young people received diplomas as trained folk dancers in 1975 and went on to dance with Hungary’s professional folk dance companies. By Fodorné Molnár Márta, rector.
