Martin György and the bagpipe. This article is about the author’s journey which began in the 1970s as an advocate for and researcher of the Hungarian bagpipe. He has been dedicated to documenting traditional bagpipers in Hungary and other regions of the Carpathian Basin. He was fortunate to have had memorable and helpful consultations with dance and music ethnographer Martin György when Martin was still alive. This writing includes a brief summary of the development of folk music in this area of the world from the bagpipe’spoint of view. "…The Hungarian bagpipe was the super instrument of the late Middle Ages; with its three pipes…one person could provide melody, rhythm and bass all at the same time...” An interesting note, as the author sees it: "…both now and from the beginning – the dance housemovement and bagpipe music have never liked one other". By Kozák József.
