The Kossuth Song. Collection work done honoring the 100th anniversary of the 1848–49 Hungarian fight for freedom, documented more than 600 versions of the well-known „Kossuth song”; including 110 versions of the one beginning with the words ’Kossuth Lajos sent the message....’. Even Romanian versions of the song have been documented in Transylvania. In 1952 folklorist Dégh Linda said: ’[The song] is still popular today; there is no one who wouldn’t recognize it.’.
